Austin Walkin’ Cane brings original and classic Delta blues to the Pocahontas County Opera House on Saturday, May 8.
A blues singer, songwriter and slide guitarist, Austin Walkin’ Cane performs with a sound that draws from the deep well of Delta blues while shaping the music through his own voice and guitar work. His repertoire blends original songs and classic blues material, creating a performance rooted in tradition but alive to the present moment.
The blues has always carried a powerful mix of grit, humor, ache and motion. In Walkin’ Cane’s hands, slide guitar becomes both voice and weather system, bending notes into something that feels human before it feels polished. The music reaches back toward the Delta tradition, but it arrives in the room as something immediate, personal and built for listening.
For Opera House audiences, this concert offers a chance to hear blues in an intimate setting, where the scrape of the slide, the grain of the vocal and the pulse of the rhythm can come through clearly. It is music that does not need a large room to feel large.
Sometimes all it needs is a guitar, a voice and a crowd willing to lean in.
Series Support: The Pocahontas County Opera House Performance Series is presented with support from the West Virginia Division of Culture & History, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Pocahontas County Dramas, Fairs and Festivals and the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
