The Pocahontas County Opera House closes the 2026-2027 Performance Series with Los Cumpleaños, bringing cumbia, tropical rhythm and Brooklyn-born energy to Marlinton on Saturday, May 22.
Los Cumpleaños, whose name translates to “The Birthdays,” brings a wide-open musical personality to the stage. Their sound draws from cumbia and tropical rhythms while folding in experimental textures, city-night momentum and a loose, celebratory spirit. It is music built for movement, color and the happy possibility that the room may decide to become a dance floor.
Cumbia is music with deep roots and a long reach. In the hands of Los Cumpleaños, that rhythmic foundation becomes something modern and unpredictable, blending tradition with psychedelic energy and a joyful sense of musical freedom.
As a season closer, Los Cumpleaños offers the right kind of exclamation point. After a year of theatre, bluegrass, jazz, blues, old-time, folk-rock and community performance, the Opera House ends with a concert designed to move the room.
Expect rhythm, color and a joyful sendoff to the season. Sitting still may remain technically allowed, but the music will likely file a formal objection.
Series Support: The Pocahontas County Opera House Performance Series is presented with support from the West Virginia Division of Culture & History, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Mid-Atlantic Arts, Pocahontas County Dramas, Fairs and Festivals and the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
