Pocahontas County Opera House
Summer Theater Camp
*Registration is Closed*
Camp Dates: July 20–24, 2026
Performance Dates: Friday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 25 at 3:00 p.m.
The Pocahontas County Opera House is pleased to offer a week-long Summer Theater Camp in partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theatre Touring Program. In just one week, children will help bring a full production to life on the Opera House stage.
This year’s production is The Frog Prince.
On Monday morning, children will audition and be cast in roles for the week’s performance. No advance preparation is necessary. Roles may include three sisters who are also princesses, the lonely Frog, Ollie the Aspen Tree, bumbling Knights, kindly Swamp Things, a well-read Alligator, fancy Flamingos, helpful Ducks, a busy Fly, and mischievous Venus Fly Traps. Assistant Directors will also be selected to help with technical aspects of the production.
Throughout the week, campers will rehearse in a fun, safe, and supportive environment while building confidence, creativity, communication skills, cooperation, and self-discipline. Camp activities will also introduce children to acting, movement, and the behind-the-scenes world of theater, including costumes, sets, and props.
Who may participate: Children entering 1st through 8th grades. Children entering 1st and 2nd grades may choose to attend only the Missoula Children’s Theatre rehearsal portion of the day, rather than the full schedule of additional programming. This is entirely optional, and all 1st and 2nd graders are welcome to participate in the full day if they wish. We recognize that younger campers may have different energy levels, and this option is intended to help them have the best possible experience.
Camp hours: Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Each child will receive lunch, a snack, a camp T-shirt, and a water bottle. Enrollment is limited to 60 children. Additional applicants will be placed on a waitlist and contacted if space becomes available.
Because the camp prepares a full production in one week, children must attend all days of camp in order to participate. Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation to and from the Pocahontas County Opera House.
This camp is made possible through the support of volunteers, community partners, and local organizations. The late Shenda Smith, a former board member who was instrumental in founding this camp, believed deeply that all children should have access to the arts. In her memory, the Shenda Smith Memorial Scholarship helps make camp possible for children in need. Families may request scholarship support on the registration form. Additional donations are also welcome and help keep this opportunity open to all children.
We look forward to welcoming your child for a week of creativity, collaboration, and live theater at the Opera House this summer.
