Annapolis, Maryland trio Pressing Strings brings its soulful blend of roots, rock, blues and folk to the Pocahontas County Opera House on Saturday, October 24.
Led by guitarist and vocalist Jordan Sokel, Pressing Strings has earned a loyal following through emotionally direct songwriting, groove-centered arrangements and a sound that moves easily between intimate and electric. The band’s music sits comfortably in the broad family of modern roots music, but it does not stay pinned to one corner of the map. Blues, soul, folk and rock all pass through the same doorway.
What makes Pressing Strings compelling is the balance between craft and looseness. The songs feel carefully built, but never stiff. There is grit in the guitar work, warmth in the vocals and enough rhythmic sway to keep the room awake in its bones.
For the Opera House audience, this concert offers a mid-fall evening of music that should appeal to listeners who like strong songwriting with a band behind it. Pressing Strings can move from reflective to full-throttle without changing its shoes, creating a live show that feels polished, heartfelt and alive in the moment.
Pressing Strings comes to Marlinton with the kind of sound that rewards close listening and makes sitting still optional.
Series Support: The Pocahontas County Opera House Performance Series is presented with support from the West Virginia Division of Culture & History, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Pocahontas County Dramas, Fairs and Festivals and the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
