Pressing Strings

Soulful roots, rock and folk

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Pressing Strings brings its soulful blend of roots, rock, blues and folk to the Pocahontas County Opera House.

Hailing from Annapolis, Maryland, the trio features guitarist and vocalist Jordan Sokel, bassist Nick Welker and drummer Justin Kruger. All three contribute vocals, giving the group a full sound capable of moving from quiet, reflective songwriting to driving roots rock.

Blues, folk, soul and modern rock all find their way into the band’s music, but songwriting remains at the center. Sokel’s expressive vocals and guitar work are supported by a rhythm section that gives the songs plenty of groove without crowding out their emotional core.

Pressing Strings has spent years touring clubs and festivals around the country. West Virginia listeners may have caught the trio earlier this summer at Snowshoe Mountain’s 4848 Festival. At the Opera House, they trade a large festival stage for an intimate room where the songs, harmonies and chemistry among three musicians can really come through.

Tickets are available online, at the door or at the 4th Ave Gallery (Pocahontas County Artisans Co-op).
