The Pocahontas County Opera House welcomes back pianist Kelton Boblits for an evening of ragtime, blues, boogie-woogie, stride piano and early jazz standards.
Boblits brings a lively and wide-ranging approach to the piano, drawing from the rich sounds of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While ragtime is an important part of his musical foundation, his program reaches beyond that tradition to include the rolling rhythms of stride, the grit and feeling of blues, the driving energy of boogie-woogie and the timeless charm of early jazz standards.
The result is a performance that celebrates the piano as both a rhythm machine and a storytelling instrument. In Boblits’ hands, the keyboard can sparkle, swing, stomp and sing, carrying audiences through an era when American popular music was bursting with invention.
From syncopated ragtime melodies to blues-soaked phrases and early jazz favorites, this concert offers a bright, engaging look at the roots of modern American music. It is a program for piano lovers, history buffs, jazz fans and anyone who enjoys music with a little polish on its shoes and a little dust from the dance floor.
Series Support: The Pocahontas County Opera House Performance Series is presented with support from the West Virginia Division of Culture & History, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Pocahontas County Dramas, Fairs and Festivals and the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
