Two Great Weekends of Music

In conjunction with the traveling Smithsonian Institution exhibit The Way We Worked and its stay in Marlinton this fall, the Pocahontas County Opera House will be the site of four great local music events on the first and third weekends of October.

Last Chance: Treasure on the Mountain Tickets

Treasure on the Mountain Tickets will be available for purchase at our July 16 concert with the Veveritse Brass Band and at the July 29 production of “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” by Greenbrier Valley Theatre. The 3rd annual Treasure on the Mountain $250,000 raffle is schedule for August 7, 2011 at Snowshoe Mountain with cash and prizes valued at over $250,000.

Tickets are just $100 and each ticket gives you multiple chances to win.

Plus, the proceeds of this raffle supports the Snowshoe Foundation, who’s mission is to enhance the surrounding communities’ quality of life through charitable contributions. Past Snowshoe Foundation contributions have supported activities at the Pocahontas County Opera House, including our Capital Campaign and our 2010-11 Performance Series events.

Advance tickets are now available for 2011-2012 Performance Series events at the Pocahontas County Opera House. This season includes local favorites, such as the Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys and Juanita Fireball & The Continental Drifters, nationally recognized artists Leon Redbone and John McCutcheon, and exciting new groups like the Veveritse Brass Band, The Steel Wheels and Caravan of Thieves. Get your tickets today so you’ll know there will be a seat for you when you get in the door. All tickets are general admission, and seating is still first come, first served, so it’s always a good idea to get to the Opera House early. To order tickets, visit our events section, and select the performance you’d like to attend.

Allegheny Echoes events at the Opera House

The 15th Annual Allegheny Echoes summer workshops are here! The program brings three fun events to the Opera House this week: a Tuesday evening square dance, the Thursday evening Student Concert, and Friday evening’s Staff Concert. Season Tickets for this year’s Performance Series are now available. A season ticket purchase saves you more than 25% on admission to Opera House as compared to buying your tickets at the door for each performance.

Ordering a season ticket for yourself or as a gift for a friend or family member is a wonderful way to show your support for keeping the performing arts alive and well in Marlinton and Pocahontas County.

And having a pair on hand at your local business gives you a unique way to entertain your clients or reward employees with a memorable evening at the Opera House. If you own a lodging establishment, having a couple of season tickets on hand is a great way to treat your guests to a night out in Marlinton.

For $100, you can receive a season ticket that gets you in the door for all 16 of this season’s performance series events.

Volunteer

The Pocahontas County Opera House is an all-volunteer organization. If you enjoy attending programs and would like to help assure that these great events keep happening, please consider becoming an Opera House volunteer.

Whether it’s baking goodies for the refreshment table, distributing posters around the county, working admission at the door, helping set up before or clean up after performances or any number of other tasks, we could use your help!

Rent

If you are looking for a unique venue to hold your performance, recital, meeting, reception, wedding, or other special event, look no further than the Opera House. The Pocahontas County Opera House is available to host all kinds of events.

A charming and intimate theater, the Opera House has the capacity of approximately 250. The Opera House is rented on a daily basis. Rental rates are $200 per day for private or business rentals and $100 per day for non-profit groups. An additional $50.00 deposit is also required and will be refunded if building is left in good order.

These rental rates and fees only cover use of the building. Any costs associated with rental of additional sound, lighting or other production equipment, staff, concessions, artists’ requirements, etc. are the sole responsibility of the lessee unless specifically addressed in the rental agreement.

For rental inquiries, e-mail rentals_at_pocahontasoperahouse.org. Please include your contact information, as well as the date(s) you are interested in renting the Opera House.

Ticket sales cover only a portion of our annual operating budget, so we must rely on the generosity of our many patrons who recognize the value of the Opera House’s role in our community. Without this ongoing support, we could not continue to offer the quality programs our audiences enjoy.

The Pocahontas County Opera House Foundation is a non-profit 501c(3) organization. The foundation is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the building, assisting in the continued restoration of the Opera House and programming of events. Donations are gladly accepted. Donors may specify the area to which they would like their donation applied.
