Friday, September 26, 7:30 p.m.

Blues/folk guitarist, singer and songwriter Spencer Bohren is from Wyoming but is often associated with New Orleans, as he lived there for a number of years and continues to prove a popular club attraction there. Brought up in a strict Baptist family, Bohren sang harmonies in church, and it was his passion for gospel music that led him to become an equally diligent student of blues and a master of the lapsteel guitar.  Bohren has toured extensively throughout the US and Europe.  Four decades as a "road scholar," concert performer and general fan of humanity have given Spencer Bohren much to share.

Gandydancer  is a West Virginia string band that performs spirited old-time mountain music on a variety of stringed instruments. Five musicians from various counties in West Virginia play driving fiddle tunes and banjo pieces and sing ballads, folksongs and old-time spirituals in four-part harmony. The band takes its name from 19th-century railroad workers; much of their material emanates from that era. Ron Mullennex, Dave Bing, Mark Payne, Jim Martin and Gerry Milnes represent lifetimes of experience collecting and performing traditional music. They pride themselves on bringing to life unusual, old and rare selections at their performances.
Patrick O'Flaherty Patrick O’Flaherty

Patrick O'Flaherty, a talented multi-instrumentalist, began playing the harmonica as a young boy in Connemara.  Raised in Galway's Gaeltacht on the Rugged West Coast of Ireland, Patrick is part of a select group of people whose native language is Gaelic. Today he is acknowledged as one of the truly fine practitioners of Irish mandolin and harmonica. He is also a highly respected player of the button accordion and banjo. Patrick is one of the few composers today writing original songs in Gaelic. His professional music career has spanned nearly three decades. During this time he performed with two excellent bands, The Celtic Folk and The Poor Clares, whose second album, Change of Habit, reached the national charts.  Patrick and his wife Andrea are the proprietors of the popular Irish Pub on Washington Street in Lewisburg, WV.
The Ahs The Ahs

The Ahs (rhymes with saws) formed in rural New Hampshire during the spring of 2005. The duo moved to Portland, Oregon in December 2005. The duet consists of Tony Rogers, a classically trained cellist, and Amy McIntire a life-long singer/songwriter. Their unique sound combines the rich, open lows of the cello with the bright precision of the banjo. Two voices: one male and one female, sing intricate harmonies against the instrumental lines. Their songs which gravitate towards the dark, mournful side of human life address love, fear, and uncertainty.

According to one reviewer, “If Hank Williams had a sunny disposition, he'd be John Lilly.” Rob McNurlin was raised in Eastern Kentucky. The hymns in church, the Johnny Cash Show on TV, a harmonica from his grandmother, his parents’ records and a guitar on his ninth Christmas set him on a musical path. He later began studying traditional music, learning hundreds of folk, hillbilly-blues and Gospel tunes.  The will pay tribute to the great country music icon who in his short lifetime pioneered the honky tonk style and became one of the most influential musicians and songwriters of the 20th century.
