Jenny Wilson Trio
November 6, 2015 @ 7:30 pm$10
Jenny Wilson, the leader of the trio, is rapidly becoming one of West Virginia’s notable jazz pianists and composers. Performing regularly in venues throughout West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and beyond, the Jenny Wilson Trio boasts fresh original music in addition to arrangements of favorite jazz standards. Their successful New England tours in 2012 and 2013 are a testament to their growing development as one of the more unique jazz trios on the scene today.
Those being introduced to the Jenny Wilson Trio may find it interesting to discover that the band is a family. Jenny’s husband, Nathan Wilson is a seasoned, world-traveling bassist who is responsible for recording both What She Sang in Winter and Willow. The trio’s drummer, Evan Lintz, is Jenny’s son. Lintz is a student at West Virginia University and a drum and percussion teacher at Fawley Music. He has been playing with the family trio for 7 years.
The Jenny Wilson Trio’s first CD, What She Sang in Winter, has received praises from noted jazz artists Art Lande, Suzanne Dean, Kenny Rittenhouse, and Chris Neville. The music on the CD features original compositions by Jenny Wilson. Their latest recording, Willow, is a collection of vocal jazz standards, many from the 30s and 40s.
After touring and teaching in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Jenny Wilson returned to the United States to earn her Master of Music Degree from West Virginia University. She continues to compose, perform, and record with her trio in Morgantown. Jenny and Nathan Wilson are presently teachers and clinicians for the West Virginia Jazz Society and have been presenting music programs for youth throughout the state since 2004.
