A Christmas Carol
December 12, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
See the stage of the Opera House transformed into merry old England, watch Ebenezer Scrooge as he learns the true meaning of Christmas and maybe get the chance to take to the stage yourself. All that and cookies too.
That’s what will be happening on Saturday December 12 at 2:00 pm when the Pocahontas Opera House presents the Hampstead Theater Company’s one hour adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The classic Christmas story will be free to anyone seventeen and under. Tickets for adults will be five dollars. Refreshments will be provided by the Pocahontas Women’s Club.
“We’re very excited about this production,” said Brynn Kusic, director of the Opera House. “The Saturday matinee will be a great family holiday outing. The Opera House will be all decked out for Christmas. There will be lots of cookies and plenty of good cheer and children will get the chance to experience the magic of live theater.”
The play tells the story of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who learns the true meaning of Christmas when he is visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve. Some audience members will get the chance to come on stage with the actors as they follow Scrooge through the streets of London with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. They’ll meet Bob Crachit and his son, Tiny Tim, and a host of other characters, all performed by two amazing professional actors.
The Hampstead Stage Company is a nationally-touring theatre company from New Hampshire. They have been touring for thirty years and specialize in bringing books to life for young audiences. Each of their fast paced performances is full of quick change costumes, different dialects, audience participation and lots of action. Following the one hour production, the actors will take questions from the audience.
Tickets will be available at the door. For advance tickets visit the Fourth Street Gallery or call 304-799-6645.
